Hope to see some of you there.  I might be tethered to a dog and standing way off on the perimeter of the park so as to keep the barking to a minimum.

Aih and I had dinner at one of our very favorite restaurants on the shore of Lake Superior north of Duluth on Saturday.  The sky was perfectly clear and the moon was brilliant, as it always seems to be when it hangs out there over the lake.  The moon was high in the sky when we left.  As the moon accompanied us home and shone its yellow brick road of a reflection across the lake and, seemingly, right up to the driver’s side door of our truck, we listened to “Look at the Moon.”  How could we not?  A perfect evening.

Quite a show, as always.  A good opportunity for some of we board denizens to congregate and count our blessings.  Highlights included:

“Book of Love” and John reporting that he’ll be singning it at his niece’s wedding this weekend.  That will be a wedding to remember.

Two little girls making a sign requesting “All the Young Dudes” and the band spontaneously honoring their request.  Followed by the same two girls making florid “thank you” signs.  Adorable.  The perfect exchange between artist and fan on a late summer evening.

“He’ll Have to Go” which John said was a Ry Cooder song.  He didn’t plumb the low notes like he did in Duluth, but maybe he’s saving his pipes for October.  I thought this was an oldie, older than Ry Cooder, but what do I know?

The show closed with “Hey Yeah.”  Can’t go wrong with that, especially when a 3 or 4 year old dancing prodigy is cutting a rug under the lights like you can’t believe.  Rupert is going to have a run for his money sooner than we know.  I’m not kidding.  Jane’s adorable son jumped out front and center and went on a terpsichorean jag, too.  Nothing like seeing an uninhibited child do what most of us really wish we were doing when we, instead, quietly tap our toes.

Great music, great friends, a sunset, and a hint of fall in the air.  As once was said about cheap, watery beer, “you know, it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Relaxed, pleasant, lovely. I got to introduce Psh to Jane. Kinda. And spouses, and kids.

Gently becoming a community with a marvelous soundtrack.

And a little Pillager recruiting to boot.

Oddly, I spent more time focusing on my board mates (and my wild child) than the band.
I’m still smiling.
